Burn Surface Area and Fluid Calculation

1. Parkland formula (24 hours) = 4ml x Body weight (In kg) x % of Total Burn surface Area

Now Total Burn surface Area have to calculate by rule of Nine…..

2. Rule of Nines for Adult …

Head and Neck = 9%

Each Arm = 9%

Front of the Trunk = 18%

Back of the Trunk = 18%

Each leg = 18%

Perineum = 1%

3. Fluid Distribution ( Crystalloid solution like Hartmann’s solution , Ringer’s lactate etc.)

First 8 hours 50% IV then next 16 hours another 50% IV

Example: 60kg man with 30% Burn; Fluid need 4x60x30 = 7200ml fluid , First 8 hours 3600ml and next 16 hours 3600ml IV
